 Our
friend Franne Brandon knew that we were looking for mares with a natural
running walk and older bloodlines. Franne contacted Larry Lineberger
in Petersburg, Tennesse and had him call me. After speaking with Larry,
we planned a trip to visit his herd of heritage bred walking horses.
His stock came from the Olivers of Brown Shop Road Farm. In November
of 2017, we loaded up our horse trailer and traveled out to see them.
What we found was a treasure trove of foundation style natural walking
horses. Larry and Rhonda were gracious hosts and showed us field after
field of the mares and foals. We selected two mares:
Ostella's
Bay Surprise and Beasley's Bullet Candy, both direct daughters
of Bud's Sterling
Bullet.
Candy is a direct daughter of the
famed middle Tennessee stallion,
Bud's Sterling
Bullet (be sure to check out his history by Franne Brandon!)
Bullet is by Senator Sterling (by
Ebony's Senator
by Ebony Masterpiece)
and out of Red Bud Lady,
a mare Leon Oliver described as "the best horse I've ever or will
ever own.) Red Bud Lady
was by the Oliver bred stallion,
Red Bud's Rascal
by the foundation bred
Red Bud Allen and out of the Oliver mare, Merry
Man's Starr. Red
Bud Allen was by
Clark's Red Allen
(Merry Legs
son x Roan Allen
daughter) and out of Lizzie Allen (by
Hunter's Allen)
 Candy
is a well built, naturally gaited mare with great bone and substance.
15.1 1/2h barefoot on concrete with an actual measuring stick. Fantastic
old hertiage bloodlines, but not IHWHA elegible due to color. Candy
was broke to ride as a young horse, but hasn't been ridden since. She
is an excellent mother. Foals and catches easily. Several of her foals
have gone on to excel as field trial mounts. She throws smart, strong
naturally gaited foals. She is the total package when it comes to gait
- snappy front end, deep backend and can four beat gait at speeds most
horses can only canter.
Candy has a spot on her right eye
from an injury that makes it cloudy.
